Delhi

We were mentally prepared for the chaos and mania of Delhi, only to find that the rumours and myths are definitely exaggerated. We enjoyed the charm of Old Dehli, the hustle and bustle of Chandni Chowk, the Red Fort (from the outside, as we were forted out after our Rajasthani trip), and the Jama Masjid. The Jama Masjid is the largest mosque in India and an incredible building. Again we were able to potter around a serene building, with a beautiful view over Old Delhi.
Raj Ghat provided relief from the hustle and bustle, a tranquil park where Ghandi’s cremated ashes were scattered.
We then went across to New Delhi, the first stop was Gurudwara Bangla Sahib – a gold domed temple with small lake. Whilst we wandered around three men played instruments and sang adding to the soothing atmosphere.
New Delhi was like entering a different city, whilst Old Delhi couldn’t have been anywhere other than India, New Delhi could have been Europe! Connaught Place seemed to be the centre of the place, with bars, cafes, restaurants, cinemas and a load of upmarket shops. As lovely as it was, it didn’t feel like real India! Next stop Amritsar!
